Meanwhile three crash test have confirmed that the Chevy Volt is one hot car.  Reminiscent of the laptop fires of a couple of years ago, it appears that the Lithium Ion batteries require careful handling after an impact.  Chevrolet is working with the NHTSA to determine just what might be needed to correct the problem and is even willing to provide free loaner cars to Volt owners until the problem is resolved.  Meanwhile the rest of us travel the road with gallons of liquid explosives without a second thought.  The Toyota Leaf encases its rechargeable batteries in metal enclosures and doesn’t employ any coolant to keep their temperature in line.  Amazing.

Maybe the engineers @ G’ovt Motors could get some help from NASA. I hear they have some spare time since looking at the raging Toyotas:) and parking the shuttle.
