Some of you may remember the era when art was part of racing cars. The bodies of cars were not just real estate for generating sponsorship dollars. They were canvas for some of the most creative artists of the day and no other brand of car did this with more flourish than BMW.

The Saratoga Automobile Museum is having a special exhibit that features not only some fantastic BMWs (motorcycles and cars), but several of the “art cars” including the Andy Warhol M1.

Nestled in Saratoga Springs, NY is this amazing automobile museum that is fortunate to have many volunteers to help visitors through their impressive exhibits.

There is a short video on the Warhol BMW M1 that includes racing footage as well as shots of the artist in the process of painting the car.

On the lower level are the BMW art cars as well as a fantastic collection of BMW motorcycles through the ages.

Then in another area, close to the gift shop, are some spectacular examples of BMW road cars. Just try and pick out your favorite. I dare you!

On the upper level are cars from the racing heritage. Many have competed at track in the New York area including Connecticut’s famous Lime Rock road course.

The Saratoga Automobile Museum does much more than just provide fascinating exhibits. It works in the local community to provide stimulating educational experiences as well as car shows. One current project is the exploration and restoration of an Amphicar by young people.
Traveling in the area of upstate New York? This museum should definitely be on your list of places to visit.
