Old Car City–White, GA

Its not a museum in the traditional sense. Its not an auto salvage yard either. It is billed as the “largest old car junk yard known in the world”, and it likely is. The owner; Lewis, Walter Dean (he is proud of his family name and lists it first); is a most interesting personality. He sees his collection as a combination of art, nature, and history. It is also a photographers paradise.

Its not just the old cars either. Mr. Lewis also has a passion for doodling on Styrofoam cups in a style that can truly be called artistic.

He has a huge collection on display.

Under cover in the main building are some gems of automobiles that have been saved from the elements.

Then you leave the building and start an adventurous trek through what could be a six mile journey as you follow the paths mowed between the seemingly endless rows of cars and remnants of cars, as well as automobile oriented stuff.

Sometimes I found a particular model of vehicle caught my eye as it brought back memories of another day and time.

Wandering about the rows with the canopy of leaves cast an interesting light that my camera was eager to capture.

Once in a while I could come across a whimsical construction that Walter Dean Lewis had created.

Toward the end as I headed back to the main building there were other collections that were just as interesting as the cars.

I doubt that I will ever come across another place quite like this one. Full of the history of car design. In fact this is the place every aspiring car designer should visit and see. Here are the remnants of what the automobile has been and become.
