Sacramento and the California Automobile Museum

I left the wilds of Danville and headed further north to Sacramento to visit the California Automobile Museum.

There current facility is being stretched to the max, but good news, by 2015 they will be in a larger and nicer facility.  You could sense the excitement in the staff as they anticipate that this might even happen sooner.

This is a car museum in the true sense of the word museum.  They have put a great deal of effort into displaying the cars in excellent lighting and with the appropriate level of information on placards.

They also have displays to give the museum visitor an opportunity to learn from the experience. 

Unlike so many museums where everything must be protected behind ropes, they have reserved a few vehicles for photo ops for visitors.  This really allows for involvement of the museum guests.

There were areas dedicated to alternative powered cars such as electrics:

There was an exhibit area for the cars of the middle of the twentieth century:

The many eras of racing:

Then there was the pre-war era:

And a bit of the post-war:

There was this wild looking motor home that borrowed its styling cues from the Cadillacs of the 1960’s:

This is an exceptional museum that is on its way to some well deserved improvements.  Even in its present home it is one that should not be missed.
