Once I heard from a GM from a Mitsubishi dealership in Brazil (long time ago) that the brand was never profitable, always operated in red ink all over the world. It was other Mitsubishi operations that kept the auto segment of the group alive. I don’t know if it true or not.

It sounds plausible, but it is difficult to actually know what was going on with Mitsubishi. Their executives hid a lot of problems from the senior execs. Things such as crank walk of the late 1970s. When I tried to find out how many of my particular model (2006 MR SE) were made all they could give me was a range of 200-250, and they didn’t seem very confident of that number.
