Even though it doesn’t have anything remotely to do with cars it was something that I couldn’t pass up.  It was a tour of the Missile Museum at the White Sands Missile Range just outside of Las Cruses, NM.

Here is a photo of the entrance:

Security was tight, but just inside the main gate is the museum grounds and you are limited to that area to explore.  They have a static display outside the two museum buildings that has an example of just about any US military rocket you have heard about.

Of the two museum buildings, one was there just to house an example of the V-2 rocket pioneered by the Nazis in World War II.  The other building had several interesting displays on the history of rocket technology, the Trinity project and several other displays.  It also contained a gift shop.  Unfortunately the gift shop didn’t have any rockets for sale.

    No rockets for sale?? BLASPHEMY!

On a school field trip at one point way long ago, I bought a hand grenade. Sure, it had a hole drilled in the bottom, but damn it looked cool. Still got it too!

Now that’s something. You need to get a picture of you riding one of those bad boys ala Slim Pickens.
