Wow. I’m quite impressed by his quick shifting. A jab of the left foot and he’s changed gears.

His top-end speed in third/fourth gear is obviously faster than many of the other cars. Except for a Porsche early on, no one passes him. I have to wonder how many of the other drivers were in his class.

Nice hot lap! There’s another one like this at the Nurburgring, with Hans Stuck in a BMW GT3 car that is even more amazing. The link to it doesn’t work anymore, though.

My guess is that he has a 5 or 6 speed. He goes from 3rd to top a fair bit.

You can go to the ‘Ring and take your own car around, which would be nice to do after, say, taking Euro delivery of a new toy. It is basically an unlimited speed, one way toll road that’s open to the paying public. That’s why there are so many slower cars on the track. All kinds of gear heads take their cars to run them on the North Loop, so on any day you can have someone in a full-on race car on the track at the same time as someone in a mildly tweaked Golf or 3-Series Bimmer. One needs to pay attention.

    From the ‘Ring’s website:

“The north loop is no modern race course. Blind curves, treacherous blind crests, steep grades, and frequent changes in road surface conditions and therefore in friction make the north loop one of the most demanding, challenging courses for any motor sports fan.

The key advantage: There is no opposing traffic to disrupt your search for the racing line. However, there are other motorists due to the organized tours, so some rules need to be followed – in the interest of safety for all concerned. ”

Haven’t been, but may go when I’m Germany in June.

Looks like a Porsche 996 GT3 “Cup” car.
